A Director's Journey

I had the privilege of directing the thesis project for Taylor Nelson over the past few months, and it is hard to believe we have made it to closing night. It's gone by in the blink of an eye. Every time I have directed over the past few years I have encountered challenges, and the more I direct, the more grateful I become for those obstacles that come my way. I believe they have made me more creative. After a brilliant first quarter at SCAD, I have continued to carry with me many valuable lessons. To Professor David Storck, I thank you for your improv training and the emphasis on play and the concept of "yes, and." The amount of times we found ourselves meeting yet another wall, I found myself saying, "yes, and...let's dig under it. Go over it. Paint an obscure painting of a door on it." And we moved forward. The result is more than I could have hoped for. This production is full of dark humor and delightful play, and I am so proud of the entire artistic team. Special thanks to Stephanie Colavito, our music director. I could not have done this without you. Photo courtesy of Fernando Tipacti Jr. (@nandoshotit).
